Canchas San Simón
Year: 2012
Location: Iztapalapa, CDMX
Construction: 600m2
Team: Pablo Pérez Palacios + Alfonso de la Concha Rojas, Miguel Vargas, Ignacio Rodríguez
The aim of this project was to give a new use to a basketball court that was in a bad condition. The local community required space to hold meetings and workshops, but had a very limited budget for design and construction. The restoration of the basketball court was achieved with a simple gesture. The basketball court and the slab itself were raised to create an open space for diverse activities. The solution required a perimeter fence to avoid any fall. The final image is a suspended lightweight cube. Part of the project was to recover metal studs to generate spatial partitions and furnishings.
